Liquid Modernity

Distribution Hall, Fusebox Festival 2022

Position: Artist

This piece explores the juxtaposition of technology and nature and echos the growing speed at which life and technology move as society evolves and advances until suddenly, the rapid pace of life is disrupted and we must rebuild. I was inspired by the idea that technology is constantly growing and developing at a pace that humans can’t keep up with, leading to a constant state of flux and impermanence. We have developed the ability to digitally recreate nature so precisely with technology that it has become nearly impossible to tell the difference. But does recognizing the difference matter?

This was one portion of a larger piece created in collaboration with the other members of the Integrated Media graduate program as an exploration of different interpretations of liquid modernity, told through the frame of a computer going through an update process before crashing.

Collaborators: Jackson Cobb, John Erickson, Heekyung Kim, Ben Randall, Court Rogers, and Sydney Sousa

Advisor: Sven Ortel
